owerful rare earth magnets have
played a huge role in technological
advancement. They are why today's
tiny speakers have a big sound. The demand
for rare earth magnets continues to grow
as the market for electric vehicles expands.
Each electric vehicle has a main motor and
several smaller motors and all of them use
rare earth magnets.
Kiril Mugerman, President and CEO of
GéoMégA, [GMA-TSXV] spoke to Resource
World Magazine about the process his com-
pany is developing to recover valuable rare
earths that make these magnets. Innord
Inc., a 97% owned private subsidiary of
GéoMégA, was created in 2015 to develop
a rare earth separation technology that is
just as efficient as conventional methods
while using no toxic organic solvents.
Mugerman said over 90% of REEs are
processed in China as there are no process-
ing plants in North America. He said, "At
GéoMégA that is what we are doing. We are
developing rare earth processing capacity."
In 2011, during the staking rush for
REE properties, Mugerman was a mining
analyst. "Everyone said, OK, I am going
to find a rare earth project and somebody
is going to come and buy me out. Not a
single junior got bought out by a major
because there are no majors in that space,"
he said.
