[MUX-TSX, NYSE] was happy to recently report achieving commercial production at its 100%-owned Gold Bar Mine located 48 km northwest of Eureka, central Nevada. During Q2 2019, the Gold Bar heap leach mine produced 7,940 ounces of gold. The ramp-up to full production is progressing; however, delays in Q1 adversely impacted gold production in Q2 and 2019 guidance. Less ore was placed onto the heap leach pad than planned, which delayed the application of solution to the ore, and sub - sequently the recovery of gold. In an interview, Rob McEwen, Executive Chairman/Chief Owner (22%) of McEwen Mining, told Resource World, "Gold Bar achieved commercial production on May 23rd, two months later than we had fore - cast. As a result, less ore was placed on the leach pad which has reduced the total pro- duction for 2019. These ounces are not lost, just pushed into 2020 production." While the Gold Bar operation is back on track, the company's revised plan is to produce 15,000 gold ounces in Q3 and 17,000 gold ounces in Q4. This means that guidance for 2019 has been reduced from 50,000 to 42,000 ounces of gold as a result of the slower than expected ramp-up. A $5 million exploration program is underway at Gold Bar. It will be testing for extensions of mineralization around the existing areas to be mined. In addi - tion drilling will be targeting the Gold Bar South to provide data to advance economic studies and permitting. The company's objective is to incorporate Gold Bar South into the mine plan this year and have per - mitting in place so that development could begin in late 2020. Drilling will also be testing for deeper Carlin-type gold depos- its similar to what exists 25 miles north, on trend, at Barrick Gold's Cortez Hill, Goldrush and Four Mile deposits. "Gold Bar South is a separate but adjoining property that we acquired in 2015," explained McEwen. "A road con - nects Gold Bar South to our process plant which is five miles away. Gold Bar South will extend the mine life of Gold Bar." Meanwhile, 65 km east of Timmins, in northeast Ontario, new, high-grade gold mineralization has been discovered at the Grey Fox area 5 km south of the 100%- owned Black Fox Mine. This is a new potential source of production to feed the Black Fox Complex. Results from the 147NE Target further define new near surface mineralization. Drilling highlights include 33.0 g/t gold over 3.14 metres; 95.2 g/t gold over 0.82 metres; 47.4 g/t gold over 1.08 metres; and 23.0 g/t gold over 1.80 metres. Of note is that the mineralization extends from surface to at least 250 metres in depth and is potentially accessible by a ramp (sloping tunnel) from surface. It is also significant that mineralization widens up to 36 metres in areas where structures intersect. The company is conducting a study to evaluate the economics of min- McEwen Mining achieves Gold Bar commercial production NEW GOLD MINERALIZATION DISCOVERED AT GREY FOX by Ellsworth Dickson
