In the second half of 2019, mining will transition to the Amaruq satellite deposit ~50 km northwest of the Meadowbank Mine, estimated to contain an open pit mineral reserve of 2.9 million oz gold (24.9 million tonnes at 3.59 g/t), an open pit and underground Indicated Resource of 1.1 million oz gold (8.9 million tonnes at 3.97 g/t), and an open pit and underground Inferred Resource of 2.1 million oz gold (12.6 million tonnes at 5.12 g/t). The com- pany states that Amaruq is on schedule to achieve commercial production in Q3 2019. On May 14, 2019, Agnico Eagle achieved commercial production at their Meliadine Mine 290 km southeast of Meadowbank. Expected 2019 produc- tion at Meliadine is ~230,000 oz gold at total cash costs of $612/oz and 385,000 gold ounces in 2020. Meliadine is Agnico Eagle's largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources. Mining at Meliadine will be carried out through several under- ground mining operations and open pits over a 14-year mine life. Aston Bay Holdings Ltd.'s [BAY-TSXV; ATBHF-OTCQB] 100%-owned Nunavut copper/zinc property is located 112 km south of the community of Resolute Bay, on western Somerset Island. Results from a 3,135-metre, nine-hole 2018 summer explo- ration drilling program comprised seven holes at the Storm copper prospect and two along strike from the Seal zinc deposit. Results from Storm drilling included: from 39.0 to 40.5 m, 1.5 m grading 4.39% Cu and 9.76 g/t Ag; and, from 62.5 to 83 m, 20.5 m grading 0.56% Cu, including, from 74.0 to 76.0 m, 2.0 m grading 2.54% Cu. Results at Seal included: from 125.0 to 131.0 m, 6.0 m grading 0.67% Zn, including from 127 to 129 m, 2.0 m grad- ing 1.11% Zn. Thomas Ullrich, CEO, said, "Results demonstrate that we now better recognize the signature of both copper and zinc mineralization in our data." In April 2019, Aura Resources Inc. [AUU-TSXV], in partnership with Agnico Eagle, announced plans to drill newly dis- covered base and precious metals targets at the Greyhound silver/gold property in the Churchill region. Aura holds a 43.54% interest in the property with Agnico as operator. The Greyhound Project is about 32 km south of Agnico's Meadowbank gold mine. Auryn Resources Inc.'s [AUG-TSX, NYSE American] portfolio of projects includes two gold projects in Nunavut: Committee Bay and Gibson MacQuoid. On July 8, 2019, Auryn announced the start of a 3,000-metre drill program at the 300,000-hectare, high-grade gold Committee Bay Project. Auryn stated that up to four targets will be drill tested "based on a combination of geologi- cal observations and data analyzed with machine learning". Baffinland Iron Mines Corp., jointly owned by ArcelorMittal and Nunavut Iron Ore, operates the Mary River Iron Mine in the Qikiqtani region of northern Baffin Island. The mine produces direct shipping ore that is trucked to Milne Port where most ore is shipped to Europe for steel making. The first ore shipped to Germany in August 2015. Benchmark Metals Inc. [BNCH-TSXV; CYRTF-OTCQB; A2JM2X-WKN] has three diamond projects in Nunavut: Muskox, Contwoyto (adjacent to the Muskox) and the Hood River. Diamonds of high quality have been sampled at Muskox. Benchmark also has the Contwoyto gold project which has been the subject of substantial explora- tion programs including diamond drilling. Blue Star Gold Corp.'s [BAU-TSXV] Ulu gold project is permitted for mining based upon past work that includes ~1.7 km of underground development and ~405 diamond drill holes that produced 97,820 metres of core. Their Hood River gold property is adjacent to the Ulu property and 115 km north of the Lupin Gold Mine. In March 2019, Blue Star announced plans to drill priority targets at Hood River. On July 15, 2019, Blue Star received a land use permit enabling geologists and archeo- logical consultants to visit the North Fold Nose gold zone, the focus of a 2019 explo- ration program. Cache Exploration Inc. [CAY-TSXV] recently announced Margaret Lake Diamonds Inc. [DIA-TSXV], the com- pany's JV partner, has filed a NI 43-101 Technical Report for the Kiyuk Lake gold property in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut where the company is exploring for near- surface gold. A 2017 drill program on the property yielded positive results includ- ing hole KI17-005 at newly discovered East Gold Point Zone which intersected 64 m at 1.5 g/t gold from 35 m and 10 m of 6.5 g/t gold from 248 m. Canarc Resources Corp. [CCM-TSX] has been granted the option, by Silver Range Resources, to acquire a 100% inter- est in the Hard Cash and Nigel properties in southeastern Nunavut (15 km apart). In May 2019, Canarc announced it had received the Government Land Use Permit for multi-phase exploration on the Hard Cash gold property. Dunnedin Ventures Inc. [DVI-TSXV] is advancing the Kahuna diamond project in Nunavut that hosts a high-grade, near surface Inferred Diamond Resource and numerous kimberlite targets. On March 20, 2019, Dunnedin announced results from 109 till samples collected in the Josephine Target Area. Claudia Tornquist, President of Dunnedin, said "We are pleased that the recent sample results show a clear cut-off of the indicator mineral train, signifying that we are now close to the one or more diamond sources. The next step will be to define discreet drill pipe-like targets for our next exploration program." GGL Resources Corp. [GGL-TSXV] reports ground geophysics has defined a number of targets on its Stein dia- mond project on the Southern Boothia Peninsula where it can earn a 60% inter- est from Arctic Star Exploration Corp. [ADD-TSXV]. Agnico Eagle's Meliadine Mine in Nunavut – the company's largest gold deposit in terms of mineral resources – achieved commercial production on schedule and under budget on May 14, 2019.
