GVCM-OTCBB] holds a 60.5% interest in Geovic Cameroon Plc., which retains a mine permit that covers 1,250 km2 in Cameroon, Africa. The remaining stake in Geovic Cameroon is held by the National Investment Corp. of Cameroon. The company has rights to seven colbaltnickel-manganese deposits, including Mada and Nkamouna. Proven and probable reserves for the two deposits were unveiled in June 2011, totalling 68.1 million tonnes at 0.26% Co, 0.66% Ni and 1.48% Mn. A project feasibility study, also released in 2011, estimates a mine life of 23 years. For the first 11 years, output will reach 6,115 tonnes cobalt, just below 3,300 tonnes nickel, and 62,800 tonnes manganese carbonate. Lundin Mining Corp. [LUN-TSX] holds a 24% stake in the Tenke Fungurume copper-cobalt mine in the DRC. Other stakeholders include Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. [FCX-NYSE] with a majority 56% share, and Congolese state mining company Gécamines, which holds the remaining 20%. The operation's current capacity allows for a throughput of 14,000 tpd ore. In its Q4 and 2012 annual results, Freeport announced that consolidated cobalt production at Tenke Fungurume reached 26 million lbs (contained) for the year. Cobalt sales achieved an average realized price of $7.83 per lb for 2012, which compares with $9.99 per lb for 2011. Puget Ventures Inc. [PVS-TSXV] has a suite of properties in Ontario's Werner Lake mineral belt, with focus centred on the Werner Lake cobalt project. On February 19, the company announced the filing of a final prospectus for an offering of subscription receipts. Proceeds from this sale and subsequent share purchases will be used for future exploration, primarily at the Karakul cobalt project in the Republic of Altai, south-central Russia. Karakul will be acquired through Puget's proposed takeover of Pafra Enterprises Co. Ltd., a deal waiting for full regulatory approval. If and when this occurs, the company will change its name and trade as Global Cobalt Corp. Its focus will then shift to Karakul, with the company aiming to build on previous 22 www.resourceworld.com exploratory work. It also aims to continue advancing Werner Lake. TITANIUM – TiO2 Strong with a low density, titanium has a variety of uses, most notably as a super alloy. For the aircraft industry it can add strength and lightness to many components without sacrificing integrity or performance. Titanium also finds use in phones, medical instruments and in several other applications. Argex Titanium Inc. [RGX-TSXV] is a near-term producer of titanium dioxide (TiO2), advancing its flagship La Blache property in the Manicouagan region, Québec. The property comprises three main zones: Hervieux West, Hervieux East and Lac Schmoo. The combined initial NI 43-101 compliant measured and mineral resource estimate for the Hervieux East and West deposits totals 30.88 million tonnes, grading 18.78% TiO2, 63.29% Fe2O3 (iron oxide) and 0.45% V2O5 (vanadium oxide). Argex also holds the Lac Brûlé property, 130 km west of BaieComeau, Québec, with a historic resource estimate of 3.87 million tonnes, grading 30-35% TiO2. In October 2012, the company announced it had hired Genivar Inc. to conduct a feasibility study for its TiO2 first-module production facility, as well as provide a development plan and capital estimate. On April 3, 2012, Argex unveiled an agreement with PPG Industries, the world's second-largest paint company, to develop and optimize pigment grade TiO2 for paints and coatings. CIC Resources Inc. is a privately-held company seeking to develop the Alto Paraná titanium-iron project in Paraguay. Its president and CEO is industry veteran David Lowell. Discussing the project in March 2012, Lowell highlighted a company scoping study that outlined, at a 7% TiO2 cut-off, a 9.09 billion-tonne resource at 7.6% TiO2 and 23.6% iron oxide. Processing technology for the recovery of titanium heavy sands has been developed and utilizes the Kuhn mineral separation process. CIC considers an output of 500,000 tpy titanium oxide slag and a similar level of high-quality pig iron feasible. TUNGSTEN – WO3 Tungsten has properties that make it difficult, and in most cases impossible, to substitute. For example, tungsten has the highest melting point of all metals at 3,422° ±15°C. At this temperature, most of the other engineering metals (Fe, Al, Cu, Ti) have vaporized. Tungsten's boiling point (~5,700°C) corresponds to the temperature at the surface of the sun. Hardmetals (cemented carbides) are the most important use of tungsten today, consuming ~60% of tungsten production. With a hardness close to diamond, hardmetal tools are the workhorses for the shaping of metals, alloys and for the mining and construction industries. Tungsten remains an important alloy for tool steels, high-speed steels (drills) and most are more familiar with the mill products – tungsten metal products – such as lighting filaments and electrical and electronic contacts. Almonty Industries Inc. [AII-TSXV] mines, processes and sells tungsten concentrate from its tungsten mine at the Los Santos Project, 50 km from Salamanca in western Spain. For the three months ending December 31, 2012, the company mined just below 128,000 tonnes of ore at a weighted average grade of 0.37% tungsten trioxide (WO3). It reported quarterly revenue of just over $5 million, while tungsten concentrate recovery rates stood at 63.3% compared with the previous quarter's 60% level. For the three months ending December, Almonty produced 19,359 mtu (metric tonne units) WO3 concentrate, compared with 16,889 mtu in the previous quarter. Azimut Exploration Inc. [AZM-TSXV] owns the Rex South gold-silver-coppertungsten property into which Aurizon Mines Ltd. [ARZ-TSX] can earn a 50% stake. The property's main mineralized zone, Augossan, is recognized over a 6 kmstrike length and has a width of 50-300 metres. It remains open in all directions. In April 2012, Azimut unveiled the results of its 2011 exploratory campaign at Rex South. Tungsten highlights included hole RS-11-40, which intersected 0.14% tungsten from 6.10-21.34 metres.
