Bond Resources Inc. [BJB-CSE] recently caught our atten- tion because its management has identified just such an opportunity. The company is in the process of acquiring the historical Mary K gold project in mining-friendly northern Idaho, 1.6 miles southeast of the small town of Elk City. The project is road accessible and a power line runs across the property. The Mary K deposit has a long his- tory but a short production time-line. According to records, it was first staked over a century ago. Two shafts were sunk and a series of surface cuts along a quartz vein were made for a length of 914 metres. In 1915, the Mary K property was acquired by Richard Kleesattel, a mining engineer, who expanded the underground workings. Between 1929 and 1942 he drove at least 731 metres of workings, the longest being the #4 level which was over 610 metres long, 335 metres of the tunnel was reported to be through gold-mineralized rock. In total, only about 2,000 tons of gold- mineralized material was mined from the Mary K Mine, with an average reported grade of 0.65 oz/ton. That works out to only about 1,300 ounces of gold mined. The last workings driven by Kleesattel were below the #4 level, near what he called "the apex of a very rich ore shoot". There, 23 feet below the #4 level, he recorded assays ranging from 11 to 59 oz/ton. These workings were developed but never mined. The mine was shut down in 1942 due to the war effort and never re-opened. Kleesattel had a stroke shortly after World War II and passed away, leaving his wife, Mary, to hold the land until her death. The current private owners, who pur- chased the mine from Kleesattle's widow, were looking for someone capable and will- ing to restart mining operations at Mary K.
