Toronto-based Sierra Metals Inc. [SMT-TSX, BVL; SMTS-NYSE
American] has come a long way from its humble beginnings in
early 2003 as Dia Bras Exploration. Earlier this year, prior to the
COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the company announced that it
expected to produce 135 million copper equivalent pounds;
21 million ounces of silver equivalent ounces; and 351 million
pounds of zinc equivalent pounds in 2020 from its three Latin
American mines, Yauricocha, Bolivar and Cusi.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the company has stated that it
intends to revise its 2020 production guidance when it provides
its first quarter 2020 financial report. Both the Mexican and
Peruvian governments have announced a temporary suspension
of non-essential activities to help contain the spread of the virus.
Subsequently, Sierra Metals has ceased normal operations at all
three of its mines. Currently, none of its employees are infected.
