The Laddertube is made from strong, lightweight, bright yellow plastic that won't corrode or degrade over time. It is easily installed and, as it is fully enclosed, it keeps out rocks, water and salt build up that might slow an escape. The Laddertube was designed by mining engineers, for miners and is made to withstand the extreme conditions found in an underground mine. Safescape states that the low maintenance Laddertube is cost effective, manu - factured quickly, modifiable and can be delivered and installed quickly. Laddertube's ergonomic design makes it easier to climb than a rung ladder; the design of the steps also allows the climber to use their lower leg muscles and reduces foot fatigue. The Laddertube allows for a rapid stretcher extraction and has a built-in fall arrest static line. The system complies with WA Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations 1995, the design and testing criteria of AS1657 and MSHA requirements as well as various provincial mining legislation requirements for underground ladderways in Canada. ON2 Solutions, based in Manitoba, Canada, designs, builds, supplies and services The TommyKnocker, a mobile mine refuge chamber made specifically for the underground hard rock mining industry. The company states that, "During a mine emergency and evacuation, The TommyKnocker is a safe haven for miners who await rescue." Because the rescue chamber is easy to move and relocate in underground mining applications it is even more accessible to miners; the system is portable and can be easily hoisted, dragged, rolled or fork lifted. The airtight TommyKnocker typically includes the ON2 Refuge One Air Centre providing a reliable source of breathable air. Some features of the mine refuge include a double door entry system for control of out - side air, positive air control system to minimize outside air ingress into the chamber, comfortable seating, a sectioned off area for a toilet, water and food storage and an occupancy beacon. A split system 230VAC heat pump provides interior comfort while minimizing power consump - tion. Depending upon the model, the TommyKnocker can house from 8 to 20 people. Other features such as first aid kits, water dispensers, batteries, and battery chargers are available. Shaft sinking rope assembly. Photo courtesy of Northern Strands.
