[CZCCNSX] is active on exploration-stage base and precious metal prospects in northeast Saskatchewan and northwest Manitoba. The company plans to drill the Parres vein on its 100%-owned Otter Lake property 30 km south of Flin Flon, Manitoba with four holes and possibly six, pending initial visual results. High-grade vein material was recovered, assaying up to 114 grams gold/ tonne, from last summer's trench sampling. Following the initial drilling, Copper Reef will expand its summer program of mapping, prospecting and detailed sampling over this and its adjacent 100%-owned Twin Lakes property. Golden Band Resources Inc. [GBNTSXV] has two gold mines: Roy Lloyd (underground) and Komis (open pit). Both are located in the La Ronge gold belt, while processing is undertaken at its Jolu mill. On April 2, the company released results for the quarter ending January 31, 2013 (Q3). Jolu processed 31,813 tonnes ore at a recovery rate of 91.4% for 3,767 ounces gold poured. This compares with 9,679 ounces gold poured during the company's Q3 2012. The decline is due to lower-grade ore from Roy Lloyd Mine as planned and dilution due to challenges faced with shrinkage stoping, the company said. The delay in bringing Komis on stream also affected gold output. La Ronge Gold Corp. [LAR-TSXV] is advancing its flagship Preview SW gold deposit located in the La Ronge gold belt. The company has recently been unveiling results from its latest drilling campaign at the project. Highlights reported on April 8 include hole PR13-159 that was drilled at the Preview A prospect and returned 1.46 grams gold/tonne from 18 www.resourceworld.com 24.29-26.12 metres and 3.71 g/t gold from 62.95-68.80 metres. On March 4, the company reported details of hole PR13-151, which was drilled 75 metres outside the defined resource and returned 633.61 g/t gold over 4.08 metres. President and CEO, Rasool Mohammad, noted that this level was outside of the limits of La Ronge's resource estimation blocks but that it should help the company with its goal of enlarging the deposit. San Gold Corp. [SGR-TSX; SGRCFOTCQX] operates the Rice Lake Mine complex near Bissett, Manitoba. Production for Q4 2012 reached 19,019 ounces gold compared with 20,359 ounces gold in Q4 2011. However, full-year output was up; the company recorded 86,506 ounces gold for 2012 compared with 74,277 ounces gold for 2011. Revenue reached $142.1 million on gold sales of 85,690 ounces for 2012. The company also drilled around 221,000 metres in the Rice Lake greenstone belt, with encouraging results reported. COAL, OIL & GAS Blackbird Energy Inc. [BBI-TSXV] has acquired oil and gas assets from Twin Butte Energy Inc. called the Flaxcombe Project located in west-central Saskatchewan. The net 2,393-acre project hosts the Sparky property with three producing oil wells. The acquisition also includes 3D seismic coverage over the Sparky oil pool and two development oil well locations. The company has now recompleted Sparky well #4 which demonstrated an equivalent daily rate of 60 barrels of oil/day. Blackbird recently agreed to buy 25 sections of oil and natural gas rights in west-central Saskatchewan called the Marengo Project for $115,000. Goldsource Mines Inc. [GXS-TSXV] holds the Border coal property that comprises 17 coal deposits located in central Saskatchewan, 50 km north of the town of Hudson Bay. At the Chemong 03 Area, the average thickness of the coal is around 25 metres, while measured resources at the property stand at just over 117 million tonnes coal. In the face of difficult market conditions, the company has placed Border on care and maintenance. Petro One Energy Corp. [POP-TSXV] has a suite of petroleum properties in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. On March 18, the company announced results for the first three quarters of its fiscal year 2012-2013. From May 1, 2012 to January 31, 2013, the company's Milton wells in southeast Saskatchewan produced 3,764.6 bbl oil for just over $300,000 in oil sales. The company also reported that its Bromhead operation (also in southeast Saskatchewan) completed its first full month of production in January. The company expects Bromhead to significantly add to its future cash flow. Saturn Minerals Inc. [SMI-TSXV; SMK-Frankfurt] has its Saskatchewan coal prospects on hold following its oil and gas discovery in that province. See page 49. Rallyemont Energy [private] is exploring and developing thermal enhanced oil recovery projects in west-central Saskatchewan. On December 12, the company announced a third-party geological review of its Prince property that will provide an update for its 2013 development plans. The goal of the review is to analyze the characteristics of the property's oil-bearing sands and further validate the thermal production opportunity. The study also aims to identify other regional and channel oil-bearing sands that may add additional resources and reserves to the project. POTASH Agrium Inc. [AGU-TSX, NYSE] has operations across the fertilizer chain and claims to be the third-largest potash producer in North America. Agrium operates the Vanscoy Mine in Saskatchewan that is being expanded to achieve a nameplate capacity of 3 million tonnes per year potash.
