CMCL-AIM] has a 49% stake in the Blanket gold mine in Zimbabwe and wholly owns the Nama base metals exploration project in Zambia. On April 10, the company unveiled a Q1 2013 production update, announcing that output reached 10,463 ounces gold compared with 9,155 ounces gold in 2012. Castle Peak Mining Ltd. [CAP-TSXV] is developing the Akorade Project in Ghana and recently conducted a limited first-phase drill program at the project's Apankrah target. Results included 6 metres of 80 g/t gold; 10 metres of 6.7 g/t gold; and 9.8 metres of 6.8 g/t gold. Preliminary metallurgical analysis is also underway. Cardero Resource Corp. [CDU-TSX; CDY-NYSE MKT; CR5-FSE] is advancing its 100%-optioned Sheini Hills iron deposit in northeast Ghana, West Africa. Based on both diamond and reverse circulation drilling over a 9 km strike length, an independent maiden resource estimate completed in January 2013 stated there is a total inferred resource of 1.312 billion tonnes grading 33.8% iron. An additional strike length of 24 km has been identified for drilling. Channel Resources Ltd. [CHU-TSXV] is focused on the Tanlouka Project, Burkina Faso. In 2012, the company released an initial resource for the project's Mankarga 5 deposit. Indicated resources are just over 14 million tonnes, grading 0.94 g/t gold for 425,000 ounces gold, while inferred resources are just over 29 million tonnes, 16 www.resourceworld.com grading 0.78 g/t for 729,000 ounces gold. Further targets have been pinpointed at the project's Manesse and Tanwaka zones. Copperzone Resources Ltd. [private] is developing a suite of projects in Zambia's Copperbelt and NW Province. Five of Copperzone's properties have been optioned since 2011: one to BHP Billiton, one to Rio Tinto and three to Vale. At its Mufumbwe Project, the company is planning drilling near hole KAL01-002, which intersected 1.3% copper, 0.25% cobalt and 0.45% nickel from 370-372 metres. Endeavour Mining Corp. [EDV-TSX; EDVMF-OTCQX; EVR-ASX] operates three African gold mines: Tabakoto, southwest Mali, with 110,301 ounces gold produced in 2012; Nzema, Ghana, with 109,447 ounces produced; and Youga, Burkina Faso, with 91,030 ounces produced. On April 24, the company reported construction of its Agbaou gold mine in Côte d'Ivoire was 57% complete. Energizer Resources Inc. [EGZ-TSX; ENZR-OTCBB; YE5-FWB] is focused on the Green Giant graphite project in Madagascar, with emphasis on the Molo deposit that has a total indicated resource for 83.99 million tonnes, grading at 6.36% graphite. On April 3, the company announced the closure of a private placement for $2.35 million. The news follows the release of a positive preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on February 25. Gold Fields Ltd. [GFI-JSE, NYSE] recently created a new vehicle, Sibanye Gold Ltd. [SBGL-JSE, NYSE], to operate the KDC and Beatrix gold mines, South Africa. It retains the South Deep Mine, near Johannesburg, which produced 270,400 ounces gold for 2012. Gold Fields also operates the Damang and Tarkwa open-pit mines in south Ghana. For 2012, Damang recorded an output of 166,400 ounces gold and Tarkwa 718,800 ounces gold. On April 9, Gold Fields announced it had reached a settlement with workers after a wildcat strike erupted at Damang and Tarkwa on April 3. Goldrush Resources Ltd. [GOD-TSXV; GDRRF-OTCQX] is advancing the Ronguen gold deposit in Burkina Faso. On January 31, the company unveiled its latest drill results from a campaign undertaken at the project's North Zone. Highlights included hole KGRR12-258 which intersected 3.13 g/t gold from 28-35 metres. The project currently has 332,000 ounces gold measured and indicated. Golden Star Resources Ltd. [GSC-TSX; GSS-NYSE MKT] has two operations in Ghana: Bogoso-Prestea and Wassa-HBB. On April 4, the company announced its Q1 2013 production results, recording sales of 81,358 ounces gold, which compares with 77,725 ounces gold Q1 2012. Exploratory efforts for 2012 were centred on Wassa/ HBB. On February 5, it reported that the complex has 1.47 million ounces gold contained effective December 31, 2012, up from 800,000 ounces gold the year before. Great Western Minerals Group [GWGTSXV; GWMGF-OTCQX] holds a 74% stake in the former-producing Steenkampskraal rare earths mine, South Africa through its wholly-owned subsidiary Rare Earth Extraction Co.
