million ounces gold contained. Rio Tinto Plc [RIO-NYSE, LSE] has a presence across Africa. On March 12-13, a flurry of discussion erupted concerning Rio Tinto and its Simandou iron ore project, Guinea. The company is developing the project with Aluminum Corp of China. Reports circulated that Rio Tinto had made moves to freeze the project, which the company has flatly refuted. According to Reuters and other news platforms, a development bottle neck has occurred, with the Guinean government yet to exercise its option to take a 51% stake in the joint-venture vehicle to develop project infrastructure. Rockridge Capital Corp. [RRC-TSXV] is exploring the Fatou gold project in southern Mali. On April 11, the company announced details of its spring 2013 drilling, focusing on eight new targets. The campaign had been delayed until recently as a precaution until counter-insurgency operations in northern Mali were concluded. Rockwell Diamonds Inc. [RDI-TSX, JSE; RDIAF-OTCQB] has a suite of South Africa-located diamond operations and projects. On January 31, the company announced a net loss of $4.7 million within its Q3 results ending November 30, 2012. On April 15, Rockwell announced the sale of its Klipdam Mine. Total monies realized, including the sale of earth-moving equipment, amount to R48 million ($5.3 million). Roxgold Inc. [ROG-TSXV] has three exploration projects in Burkina Faso. On March 4, it unveiled a new resource estimate for its wholly-owned Yaramoko concession. Effective March 1, and at a 3 g/t gold cut-off grade, indicated resources stand at just over 1.34 million tonnes at 15.7 g/t gold for 679,000 ounces gold. Inferred resources are 751,000 tonnes at 8.9 g/t gold for 216,000 ounces gold. Sama Resources Inc. The company is currently drilling the Lola nickel-coppercobalt-iron project where a rich laterite deposit has been discovered. The nearby nickel-copper-PGM Samapleu Main and Samapleu Extension project has indicated resources of 66.4 million lb nickel and 61 million lb copper, plus inferred resources of 41.2 million lb nickel and 30.5 million lb copper. Sunridge Gold Corp. [SGC-TSXV] is focused on the Asmara polymetallic project in Eritrea, which has total measured and indicated resources of 1.3 billion lbs (589,000 tonnes) copper, 2.6 billion lbs zinc, 930,000 ounces gold and 28 million ounces silver. A project feasibility study will be released during May. On March 7, the company unveiled the latest drill results at Asmara's Kodadu target. Highlights included hole KD-002-RC, which intercepted 1.71 g/t gold from 0-51 metres.
