London-based private company, Avannaa Resources Ltd. has an agreement with senior Swedish miner, Boliden AB [BOL-Stockholm] to explore for zinc in Greenland and plans to search for copper in eastern Greenland with Anglo American PLC [AAL-London]. Australian-Based Ironbark Zinc Ltd. [IBG-ASX] and China Non-ferrous Metal Industry has spent over $50 million on their 13 billion-lb Citronen zinc-lead project on the northern coast of Greenland where there is a shipping access three months per year. Another Australian, Greenland Minerals & Energy Ltd. [GGG-ASX] has the Kvanefjeld Project with resources of 10.3 million tonnes of rare earth oxide, plus 575 million lbs of U3O8 and zinc credits. Feasibility studies are well advanced. West Melville Metals Inc. [WMMTSXV] is acquiring the Isortoq property from Hunter Minerals Pty Ltd. The irontitanium-vanadium prospect is located in southern Greenland. In January 2013, West Melville stated that there is an initial NI 43-101 compliant inferred resource of 70.3 million tonnes grading 29.6% total iron, 10.9% titanium oxide and 0.144% vanadium pentoxide.
