MININGWORLD EDI Environmental specializes in environmental risk management With higher levels of environmental awareness and stringent regulations, it is more important than ever for mining companies to conduct comprehensive environmental studies throughout the life cycle of a mine and beyond. This holds true not only to avoid costly delays in permitting, but also to satisfy societal scrutiny. Founded in 1994, Western Canada-based EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc. is a consulting company focusing on aquatic and terrestrial environmental management services. With offices in Vancouver, Prince George, Nanaimo, Grande Prairie, and Whitehorse, the employee-owned company has clients involved in mining, forestry, agriculture, linear development (power lines), oil & gas, renewable energy, transportation, aquaculture and urban development. Clients also include various levels of government as well as First Nations. To this end, EDI has been organized to handle such diverse needs as aquatic and terrestrial baseline inventories, environmental impact assessments as well as mitigation analyses and habitat compensation planning. EDI also provides consulting service on road development, mine construction and sediment pond construction. Ongoing studies include water management plans and environmental monitoring. When the life of a mine inevitably comes to an end, EDI provides expertise on site reclamation, mine closure and abandonment environmental management. In the west-central Yukon, EDI has provided environmental assessment services for the Casino copper-gold-molybdenum project to support the Project Proposal submission to the Yukon DECEMBER/JANUARY 2014 RW December 2013.indd 55 Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Board. Also in the Yukon, EDI is involved in the reclamation of the past-producing Faro lead-zinc mine. Revegetation trials are under way using local seed and natural vegetation in selected locations throughout the mine site. In north-central British Columbia, EDI has worked on the recently opened Mount Milligan gold and copper mine since 2007 where it consulted on many aspects pertaining to the design and building of the mine and related infrastructure. In addition to metal mining projects, EDI also consults on coal projects, including the Murray River Project, a proposed underground metallurgical coal mine southwest of Tumbler Ridge, northeast BC. EDI is responsible for conducting a wildlife habitat inventory, waterfowl staging surveys, water quality sampling, and aquatic life baseline studies. "EDI will continue to implement our plan for growth by focusing on the continued execution of our long held strategy: to provide high quality diverse environmental services from strategic regional centres to key natural resource industry sectors," said Robert Redden, President. "In order to accomplish these strategic goals, EDI will continue to focus on quality, innovation, and by continuing to leverage the strengths of our amazing staff. EDI constantly evaluates opportunities for expansion into new markets and the addition of new services, so expect to see many new exciting ventures from us in the future." n www.resourceworld.com 55 12/11/2013 6:12 PM
