Wainaleka copper-zinc prospect, Nakoro
VMS prospect, Liwa Creek gold prospect
and the Rama Creek copper prospect.
The Wainaleka property is a volcano-
genic massive sulphide prospect located
about 50 km from the deep water port of
Suva, the capital of Fiji. Anglo American
drilled 15 holes in 1977. Highlights
include 6.2 metres grading 1.8% copper,
12% zinc and 25 g/t silver as well as 9.7
metres of 2.3% copper, 5.5% zinc and 47
g/t silver.
Drilling in the 1970s by Anglo
American at the Nakoro VMS prospect
returned 12 metres of 12.7% zinc, 0.3%
copper and 56 g/t silver. Recent shallow
diamond drilling located a new zinc-rich
zone close to surface with several anoma-
lous drill intersections, including 1.3
metres of 3.3% copper, 1.5% zinc and
37.6 g/t silver. A float sample in this area
returned 21.1% copper. A geophysical
survey in 2012 indicated that the prospec-
tive horizon extends over 8 km.
Original sampling by Amoco Minerals
in the 1970s at the Liwa Creek gold pros-
pect returned 8.4 g/t gold and 93 g/t
silver from a float sample. In the 1980s
Geopacific Ltd. discovered the source of
the float sample. The surface expression
was a 90-100 metre wide zone of altered
volcanic rock with a strike length of over
300 metres. Trenching by Geopacific
returned 15 metres of 1.9 g/t gold and 5.5
metres of 2.0 g/t gold. Airborne geophys-
ics has also been carried out.
The Rama Creek copper prospect is a
copper-gold porphyry target discovered
by Barringer in the 1970s. In 1975 Anglo
American drilled four holes that inter-
sected anomalous copper-gold values,
including 244 metres of 0.22% copper and
0.16 g/t gold that included a near-surface
interval of 72 metres of 0.32% copper and
0.25 g/t gold. Rama Creek has a mineral-
ized system similar to Namosi, which hosts
2.2 billion tonnes grading 0.34% copper
and 0.11 g/t gold located 30 km west.
The Namosi deposit on Viti Levu is
being explored by joint venture part-
