I met Eira Thomas, geologist, in 2013, at Kaminak Gold Corp's Coffee Project in the Yukon,
over a box of drill core. Of course I had heard of her before; most industry people have
heard of Eira Thomas and her father, Gren Thomas, and are familiar with their success in
the diamond industry. Exciting as her early history is, it was only the beginning of her
amazing story which is the story of a very successful treasure hunter.
The day that I interviewed Thomas, was the day after Lucara Diamond Corp. [LUC-
TSX; OMX Nasdaq] put out a news release regarding the 342-carat diamond recovered by
the company at their Karowe Mine in Botswana. Eira Thomas is a founder and director of
Lucara. It was the biggest diamond recovered to date at a mine that has recovered some
very large stones. A stone of 246 carats was the previous record holder from that mine;
