Newfoundland's Next Gold Camp:
1.2 million oz. and growing
corridors are known as stockworks.
Rw: Your 2014 feasibility study noted
all-in sustaining cash costs of only US
$448/oz. Would you say that this is a
low number for an underground mining
operation?
JO: We believe that our cash costs will
be low for an underground or an open pit
mine. The high grades at the Valley of the
Kings generate the favorable numbers. We
have a Net Cash Flow of US $2.72 billion
(post-tax) and an NPV of US $1.45 billion
which is rare for underground gold mines,
or any mining operation, for that matter.
Rw: Has Pretium signed agreements
with the local First Nations?
JO: We have signed a co-operation and
benefits agreement with the Nisga'a Nation
who have rights within the area of our
access road and transmission line. There
are also two other nations that we work
with – the Skii km Lax Ha who have an
agreement to maintain our access road. We
are also in discussions with the Tahltan
Nation.
Rw: Can you carry out construction
work during the winter?
JO: We have been operating throughout
the winters since 2011. Cold weather is
just something in which you learn to oper-
ate like in other parts of Canada.
Rw: At what stage of construction is
the Brucejack project?
JO: We are now in the pre-construction
phase getting the site prepped, getting
accommodations available and preparing
the underground to start mining. There
is a 40,000-metre underground infill drill-
ing program with a primary purpose of
designing grade control for mining. For
this summer we are also planning a grass-
roots exploration program east of the mine
site to stay out of the way of the mine
builders. If other economic deposits are
found at Brucejack, we could potentially
extend the life of the existing mill.
