The unveiling event was held in Whitehorse Yukon with commu- nity and First Nations leaders in attendance at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. The coin's design, featuring a raven by art- ist Nathalie Bertin, was inspired by First Nations storytelling tradi- tions of the Pacific Northwest. "This new silver coin merges the old with the new, thanks to the Mint's unique achromatic hologram technol- ogy," said Sandra Hanington, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. The three coins in the series feature a colour- ful, shimmering depiction of the Northern lights. The coins are struck with 99.99% silver. The three-dimensional raven you see when you look at this coin doesn't exist in physical space. The image is not a physical image, but a virtual image that is produced on your retina. The first coin to use the 3D effect was a 2013 coin struck by the Mint to com- memorate Superman's 75 th anniversary. T h e s e c o n d coin struck by the Mint, using the 3D technology commemorated the Canadian Space Agency's 25 th anni- versary, in 2014. These complex detailed images use the same technology that is used on banknotes for security purposes. The lower part of the image, featuring mountains and coniferous forest is actually engraved in silver. The Royal Canadian Mint is making available a very limited mintage of the coin. Only 8,500 of the coins have been struck. The coins are available at Royal Canadian Mint boutiques in Ottawa, Winnipeg and Vancouver as well as through the mints global network of dealers and distributors includ- ing participating Canada Post outlets for $109.95 before taxes. The Mint has made available several kinds of unique coins including a series featuring a glow in the dark Star Chart series and the Phenomenal Weather series that fea- tures black light technology and comes with a black light flashlight. A 2016 coin, The Universe, features a combination of color and glow paint along with a specially selected borosilicate fine art coloured glass that also glows in the dark. "The round, crystal-clear, qualities of the glass are similar to peering through a telescope lens, and its luminescence fur- ther enhances the viewer's experience of gazing into the galaxy." The Royal Canadian Mint is the Crown Corporation responsible for the minting and distribution of Canada's circulation coins. n northern Lights collector coin unveiled in Yukon * Resource World does not sell your information to third parties 709-700 W Pender St., vancouver bc v6c 1G8 canada Name aDDreSS CitY prov. poStaL CoDe pHoNe e-maiL online at www.resourceworld.com or phone 1.877.484.3800 SAVE 50% up to resource World (print and Digital edition) 1 Year ($19.95) resource World (Digital edition) 1 Year ($9.95) resource World (Digital edition) 2 Years ($14.95) resource World (print and Digital edition) 2 Years ($24.95) international resource World (print) 1 Year ($89.00) renew my subscription canadian subscribers please add applicable sales tax
