[SGF-TSX] Performance YTD -37.5% Despite its name, Shore Gold is a dia- mond exploration and development company with a stake in some very large, low-grade, but high value, diamond deposits in Saskatchewan. Buried deep under more than 100 metres of overbur- den, the capital costs of getting down to the pay grade are daunting. It is unlikely the estimated $2 billion capital cost for this mine could be raised in the near future. While the diamond sector has been out of the spotlight for years, Canadian com- panies are in the forefront. Next year will see two new diamond mines in Canada and, despite the current market woes, they should hit a receptive market. Consolidation might be expected as companies with cash flow, like Dominion Diamond, look to shore up their long-term production profile. This is not a market for buy and hold investors. It requires knowledge and expert timing. We follow the old adage, "buy on rumour, sell on news" with a slight twist. We would say "Buy on Boredom, Sell on Excitement".
