It's meaning, to make something accessible to all people, is especially relevant to an organization like Geoscience BC whose expressed purpose it is to deliver information to the public. Geoscience BC is a non-profit organi- zation established in 2005 through an investment from the Province of British Columbia. "We generate earth science informa- tion in partnership with First Nations, the resource sector, universities, governments and communities. We deliver this informa- tion to the public to encourage investment and enable informed land use decisions for the benefit of all British Columbians." On October 8, Madu officially launched the Earth Science Viewer (ESV) at Geoscience BC Day. Geoscience BC releases new project data sets and reports each month and ESV allows them to coordinate the release of data and its spatial display on map layers. The event celebrated 10 years of earth science generation and delivery in British Columbia. "We identified a business need to better deliver data and reports from projects. It's a new voice for Geoscience BC," explains Madu. Geoscience BC describes ESV as a sin- gle place to access the information they deliver. End-users can load layers, search for and download data, query layers and build, save, print and share custom maps and images. Users do not need special skills or software, just an Internet connection. Conveniently, ESV can import information from other sources and display that infor- mation on a base layer map. ESV offers a variety of base maps; the user can pick the foundation upon which they can build. Available backgrounds include digital elevation models, satellite images, topography, geological, and street maps. The data is hyperlinked back to the original data source. If the information comes from one of Geosciences reports the data is linked back to the relevant project page or if it is a mineral title it links back to the title information. Geoscience BC's Earth Science Viewer is an online tool that consolidates all projects and report data released through Geoscience BC and its project proponents. The tool, inspired by the BC Geological Survey's 'MapPlace', is easily found on Geoscience BC's home page www.geosciencebc.com; from there, one click takes you to the ESV where you can immediately begin creating your own map of BC displaying your selected data. ESV is built using Geocortex Essentials software. The ESV site uses HTML5 and can be viewed on all platforms and devices such as workstations, tablets and smart phones. The application provides users with simple mapping functionality and allows basic geoprocessing tasks through a web browser without the need for specialized GIS software. n Accurate multizone groundwater characterization data — from one wellbore. Westbay systems can monitor multiple discrete zones in a single borehole without cross-contamination, acquiring quality groundwater characteriza - tion data while reducing drilling and installation costs. During a complex groundwater investigation in West Virginia, DuPont used Westbay systems to obtain detailed hydraulic data from up to 40 zones in each well, which helped quantify groundwater constituents in less time and at less cost compared with conventional methods.
