Precious Metals Review by Ron Hall Gold, silver, platinum and palladium are probably the most recognized of the group of metals referred to as precious although there are four others that fall into this classification namely ruthenium, rhodium, iridium and osmium that together with platinum and palladium are collectively known as the platinum group metals. Often referred to as noble metals – meaning that they resist attack by acids and other reagents and do not corrode easily (although silver does tarnish) – the precious metals tend to be attractive, durable, malleable and ductile.
