Hermosa also contains the large Central silver-manganese-zinc oxide resource which contains approximately 250 mil- lion ounces of silver. The Taylor deposit is classified as a zinc-lead-silver carbonate replacement deposit hosting a resource of 8.6 million tons in the measured category grading 4.2% zinc, 4.0% lead and 1.6 oz/ ton silver. In addition, there is more than 63.8 million tons in the indicated cat- egory grading 4.5% zinc, 4.4% lead and 1.9 oz/ton silver along with 38.6 million tons of inferred resources grading 4.4% zinc, 4.2% lead and 3.1 oz/ton silver. All resources are classified in accordance with NI 43-101 guidelines utilizing a 4% ZnEq cutoff grade. The Taylor deposit remains open to the north, west and south over land controlled by the company and will be drilled to test the limits of the resource. The company's other project on the Hermosa property is the Central deposit, a silver-manganese manto oxide project. "Our exploration drilling continues to expand both the Taylor Sulfide and Taylor Deeps Zones, while the infill drilling is demonstrating great continuity between areas," says Chief Operating Officer, Don Taylor. Canadian companies haven't been immune to legal entanglements in foreign jurisdictions including Nevsun Resources Ltd. [NSU-TSX, NYSE AMERICAN] which operates the Bisha Mine Project in Eritrea, East Africa. The mine is host to a large, high-grade volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposit 150 km west of Asmara. The State of Eritrea has a 40% interest in the Bisha Mine through the Eritrean National Mining Company (ENAMCO). The British Columbia Court of Appeal recently dismissed an appeal by Nevsun Resources to have a human rights case against the miner moved to Eritrea. The case, brought forward by three Eritrean refugees, alleges that international law norms against forced labour, slavery and torture were violated during the construc- tion of Nevsun's Bisha Project. None of the allegations have been proven in court. Nevsun also has an advanced base met- als project in Serbia – see page 60. HudBay Minerals Inc. [HBM-TSX, NYSE] is facing a lawsuit in Canada associ- ated with its former ownership of the Fenix nickel project near El Estor, Guatemala which was operated by a subsidiary, Compania Guatemalteca de Niquel (CGN). The Fenix property had been a fully opera- tional nickel laterite mining and smelting operation in the 1970s until it was placed on care and maintenance in 1980. The lawsuit against HudBay alleges shootings and gang rapes occurred at the mining project which was divested by the company in 2011. Hudbay claims that the "lawsuits have been the focus of discus- sions on activist group websites and on social media, most of which have included vague, distorted and otherwise mislead- ing accounts of CGN's operations in Guatemala." None of the allegations have been proven in court. Tahoe Resources Inc. [THO-TSX, LIMA; TAHO-NYSE] has also been having legal problems over its silver-gold-lead- zinc Escobal Mine Project in Guatemala which ranks among the largest silver pro- ducers in the world. The Supreme Court of Canada has cleared the way for a civil lawsuit against the company to move to trial in British Columbia over violence at the project. The original lawsuit, which involved a response to a violent altercation at the Guatemalan mine site, was filed in June 2014 and was subsequently set aside as lawyers on both sides of the case argued whether British Columbia or Guatemala was the more appropriate forum for the suit. None of the allegations have been proven in court. The TSX Venture Exchange has been off to a good start in 2018, finally breaking through the 800 mark in mid-December 2017. n
