In
Nevada Exploration
and Mining Roundup
First there was silver, then there was gold – now
Nevada is seeing lithium exploration heating up
by Peter Kennedy
In Nevada exploration circles the name
John Livermore is golden. His discover-
ies along the fabled Carlin Trend helped
to establish the Silver State as one of the
world's leading centres for gold explo-
ration, home to the world's leading
producers Barrick Gold Corp. [ABX-TSX,
ABX-NYSE], Newmont Mining Corp.
[NEM-NYSE], and Kinross Gold Corp.
[K-TSX; KGC-NYSE] which have major
operations there.
Nearly 60 years after Livermore's Carlin
Mine discovery, the Cordex Syndicate, the
company he founded in 1969, is still pros-
pecting for gold under the leadership of
Andy Wallace, a 69-year old geologist with
an impressive track record of discover-
ies. In an interview with Resource World,
Wallace expressed the view that even after
recent finds such as Barrick Gold's huge
Goldrush Project, there is still a lot more
gold to be found in Nevada.
Leading candidates to become the next
mine, he said, include Gold Standard
Ventures Corp.'s [GSV-TSX; GSV-NYSE]
Railroad Pinion Project, NuLegacy Gold
Corp's. [NUG-TSXV; NULGF-OTCQX]
Iceberg Project, Corvus Gold Inc.'s [KOR-
TSX; CORVF-OTCQX] North Bullfrog,
and Northern Empire Resources Corp.'s
[NM-TSXV, PSPGF-OTC] Sterling Project.
"Everybody is waiting for one of these
to make a mine,'' said Wallace. "None of
them are quite there yet; Gold Standard is
probably the closest."
New production from any of those
sites would add to a mining legacy that
has made Nevada the fourth best jurisdic-
tion in the world for mining investments,
according to the Fraser Institute. In 2015,
Nevada produced 9.5 million ounces of sil-
