It matters little that the Bolt will get over 100 miles to the gallon equiv- alent of fuel economy, more than twice the economy of the Civic. ICE cars have a greater range. Typically, ICE cars can go 400 to 500 kilometres with- out needing to refuel. Most affordable electric cars, such as the Nissan Leaf have a range of 100 to 125 kilometres. It's like driving around with a quarter tank of gas, and when the electric car runs out of juice, it can't be filled from a Jerry can of fuel; it needs to be plugged in for at least a half an hour, and to fully recharge, several hours. ICE CARS ARE INHERENTLY SUPERIOR FOR ROAD TRIPS Owners of ICE vehicles don't need to worry about having access to a charging station. While many urban dwellers might like to drive an electric car, many live in condos and apartments which don't have facilities for charging electric cars. ICE cars are superior for people who don't have access to charging infrastructure. ICE car manufacturers make profits on ICE vehicles. Tesla loses money on elec- trics, on an accelerating basis, and is in poor financial shape. Teslas and other elec- tric cars are currently subsidized in the US market by government policy incentives and this will end in the next year or so, boosting the price of electric vehicles. ICE cars are understood by consumers but electric cars are not well understood. Car manufacturers have little economic incentive to advertise electric vehicles on which they lose money. Most put in just enough effort to sell the minimum num- ber of electric vehicles to comply with California's Zero Emissions quota. However, China has adopted a similar Zero Emissions policy to California. ICE cars have better resale values. The Tesla Model S holds up well, but all the other electric cars from BMW, Nissan and GM to name a few, have extraordinarily high depreciation. This is a complex topic because electric cars lose value for the same reason that older TVs and cell phones lose value, which is because the tech is improv- CAR WARS
