48 www.resourceworld.com A P R I L / M A Y 2 0 1 9 In the past, the region saw thousands of garimpeiros, or artisanal miners, seeking alluvial gold. During the 1980s and 90s, some 7-10 million ounces of placer gold was recovered from streams. Today, most of the artisanal miners are gone and the region known as the Alta Floresta/Juruena belt is home to a number of major mining companies, including Anglo American, exploring for gold and copper deposits. Of note, Altamira is the only junior in this huge prospective region. The company holds 11 projects com - prising approximately 300,000 hectares and recently added 42,000 hectares to its Apiacas claim package along the Alta Floresta belt. An estimated 1 million ounces of placer gold has been recovered from streams in the Apiacas Project area belt. Recent surface sampling by Altamira on its Apiacas property returned assays ranging from 0 to 46.1 g/t gold from nine grab samples in a total of 17 samples from the Paulinho Troca-Tiro target. Company geologists also identified widespread dis - seminated gold mineralization over several square kilometres at the Mutum target. Altamira has also received encourag- ing assays from the northeast corner of the Apiacas claims, including 12 samples ranging from 3 to 118.7 g/t gold at the Papagaio target as well as good gold values from other structures and veins, includ - ing Bragatte, Casa Branca and Joao Fidelis. While no drilling has been completed as of yet on the above targets, an esti- mated 90% of the placer gold mined in the district is believed to have originated from the company-owned Mutum target area. Geological mapping and sampling is underway with the objective of finding the ALTAMIRA GOLD — Multiple Brazilian gold and copper prospects by Ellsworth Dickson WITH SEVERAL OF ITS EXPLORATION PROJECTS ALONG THE MATO GROSSO-PARA STATE BORDER AND WITHIN MATO GROSSO ITSELF, IN WEST-CENTRAL BRAZIL, ALTAMIRA GOLD CORP.
