Not only does the industry provide some of the highest paid employment avail- able in these northern communities, it has contributed to the development of critical infrastructure in remote areas. The mineral industry also provides business and community development opportunities to remote communities who build businesses to service the mining industry and its employees. Today, northern Aboriginal governments, businesses and individuals participate in and benefit from the exploration, development and mining of the mineral wealth in the far north. The outlook for the Nunavut Territory's economy is looking good according the Conference Board of Canada's annual economic forecast for Canada's Northern Territories: Territorial Outlook Economic Forecast (Summer 2019). The report states that Nunavut will see "significant eco- nomic growth" due to its growing mining industry. Chamber of Mines President, Gary Vivian said, "Nunavut has seen signifi- cant exploration over the past 12 years, and consequently a rebirth of its mining industry. Mining is now on an encourag- ing growth path, providing significant benefits to Nunavut and Canada." The Territorial Outlook provides the economic and fiscal outlook for each of Canada's three Northern territories, including output by industry, labour mar- kets, and demographics. On August 15, 2019 The Star reported that the Minister of Transport, Marc Garneau, pledged more than $50 mil- lion "to cover preliminary studies and planning for an all-weather road from Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories to a deep-water port on Nunavut's cen- tral Arctic coast". The total cost of the road and port is estimated at about $1 bil- lion. The road would substantially bring down the cost of mining and supplies as well as support economic development in Canada's remote north. The following companies are exploring, developing and mining in Nunavut: Senior gold miner Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd.'s [AEM-TSX, NYSE], Meadowbank, open pit gold mine, in the Kivalliq District, is in its last year of production and is Nunavut exploration and mining by Kathrine Moore
