Goldcorp [G-TSX; GG-NYSE], one of the
world's fastest growing senior gold producers, is looking for employees of all
different skills and backgrounds. To find
them, the company has targeted recruitment and employee development and
advancement plans.
Senior Vice President of People and
Safety, Paul Farrow, says there are many
good reasons to work at Goldcorp.
"Goldcorp has a proven, solid record of
growth and continues to grow," he said.
"We have producing mines and a pipeline
of development projects that will be coming on-stream in the future."
As its name suggests, Goldcorp focuses
on gold. "The market has rewarded gold

companies in the last decade," Farrow said.
"Historically, they command a premium
from investors and we need to deliver on
that expectation."
Goldcorp has 11 operating mines and
three advanced projects, from northern Québec to southern Argentina. The
company has 16,000 employees and contractors, about half of whom are full-time.
Approximately 3,000 are in Canada and
the US, about 3,000 in Mexico and another
2,000 in Central and South America.
"Because Goldcorp is decentralized, we're
working to share our best practices across
the whole company," Farrow said. "For
example, we're increasing the size of our
corporate team by between 30 and 40
people this year." Farrow says Goldcorp
has been putting considerable effort into
attracting more people.
"There is a shortage of workers with
strong mining backgrounds, especially in
parts of South America and Mexico; but
we also need people with other skills, not
just geology and engineering," he said.
Farrow says the company has noticed an
increasing interest in mining from university students in Canada and the US. "We
are making greater use of social media to
communicate with younger people," he
said. "And we're very open with them
about the opportunities and challenges
that face the mining industry."
Farrow says Goldcorp's employees have
